Retired from U.S. Naval Reserve, Rank of Commander. Homer lead a very interesting life. He actively participated in the activities of his church, St. Matthews United Methodist Church at Madison, Madison County, MS. His pastor, in the funeral services, related several events about Homer's interest. He never missed a Mississippi State University football game, and had season tickets to games of the New Orleans Saints professional football team. He had been active in productions of "The Little Theater" in Jackson, and while working in Vicksburg, he was a member of the cast of "Gold in Them Thar Hills" a comedy performed on the old river boat "The Sprague." Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet, his pastor, told about Homer's pantomine program of Jerry Lee Lewis' piano playing at one of the church functions. (Those attending the Pepper Reunion at Lake Tiak O'Khata in 1993 remember this same program that he presented at the family fellowship supper. This in spite of his extremely weakened conditions caused by his long fight against cancer.)
