Nothing concerning this interesting family has ever been written or published to any considerable extent, except a number of valuable historical notes relating to the family published in the "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography" by Mrs. L. C. Anderson, of Bainbridge, Ohio. The Vesey Pedigree in England is found in the "Visitation Books", 1612, Suffolk, England. Thomas Vesey, of Aldham, married Elizabeth Gardiner, and had issue. Thomas, son and heir; Alice married to Henry Gonville, of Garleston, in Suffolk. Thomas Vesey married Elizabeth Church, daughter of John Church of Malden, in Essex, and had issue. Thomas, son and heir; Edward second son; Mary married to Thomas Atherold, of Burgh, in Suffolk. Thomas Vesey married Ann Vere, daughter of John Vere of Henley, in Suffolk, and had issue; Thomas Vesey, son and heir age one, Ann age 10, Mary age nine, Elizabeth age seven. The "Visitation of Suffolk", 1612, shows Thomas Vesey as being born in 1611. He is probably the father of this George Vesey, who came to VA in about 1652. The Mary Vesey, who married Thomas Atherold, a lawyer of Burgh, Suffolk, England, had a daughter, Hannah, who married Col. William Ball, the great-great- grandfather of George Washington, our First President. The Ball family came to Virginia with Col. William Ball in 1649-50, and George Vesey, who was related to them by blood, probably came at the same time.
