Graduated from high school in Yazoo City, MS, 1935. BS in Civil Engineering from Miss. State Univ., 1939. 2LT in Army Reserves. Hydraulic Engineer, U. S. Geological Survey, Ocala, FL, 1939-1941. Called to active duty, July 1941, Camp Davis, NC (Anti-aircraft). Commander of Barrage Balloon battery, Camp Tyson, TN. After unit converted to Signal Corps, was transferred back to Anti-aircraft unit, Camp Stewart, GA. Later transferred to Transportation Corps in New Orleans, LA, assigned as the commander of a port company (freshly inducted Negro troops). Trained company at New Orleans, then completed unit training at Boston, MA. Participated in the Battle of Okinawa. Company had best record of all port companies assigned to Tenth Army, and had been selected for special assignment for the invasion of Japan. Fortunately, the war ended before the plans were executed. Turned down opportunity of transfer to 24th Corps (occupation of Korea) with promotion to LTC, and returned home. Released from active duty, April 1946, as Major CE-Res. Operated a consulting engineering firm in Yazoo City, MS, 1946-1956. Employed as State Water Engineer in 1956, and continued in that position until retirement in Sept. 1983. Received numerous honors during his professional career. President, Miss. Engineering Society. President, Miss. Section of ASCE. Chairman, Interstate Conference on Water Problems. Chairman, Interstate Conference on Environment (composed of administrators of the three principal water related programs in each of the 50 States.)
